Taranaki Air Rifle 50/ 30 metre champs
12.11.22
We have just had the Melbourne Cup and I couldn't pick the winner there, we have just run the 50/30 metre champs and once again I couldn't pick the winner. It was a strong field of shooters but none could beat John Costain who was right on target in challenging fickle wind conditions. Johns scores showed a consistency with a spread of a lowest score of 88 and a highest of 90. for a well deserved win. 2nd place Geoff Coubrough who had had a handy lead until a disaster on one card of 81 let John in front. Charlene Roberts took one card to get her eye in only scoring a 76 apart for that one score she was in the high 80s which got her up to 5th place. As I said before the wind had a big say in the scores and some shooters handled it better than others, even so shooting was of a high standard, considering at one time we wouldn't have shot targets at 50 metres, thinking it was a target to faraway. It is a indication of how far Air Rifles have come. Scores were: John Costain 356, Geoff Coubrough 352, John Brogden 303, Frank Eustace 345, Mark Evans 333, Nigel Kay 302, Tim W 311, Shane Roberts 295, Charlene Roberts 330.
