This week's match report from Frank:
Well hello fellow shooters, my the year is already at the end of February, it seems 2021 was only yesterday. Air rifles bench rest shooting Field Targets out to 50 metres was the challenge. How far air rifles have come in the last 50 or so years and how accurate they have become. Accuracy on a par with rim fire .22 target rifles. Nigel had the best hit of the day with 9/10 and only missing 13 out of 40 targets. Geoff had 8/10 and missed 6 out of 20. John Snr continues to improve with over 50% hit rate. Brian scored 8/10 and Mark with a springer only missed 13 out of 30. With a almost perfect windless day it was a great chance to test air rifles at 50 metres on paper. Frank had 8 shots that were less than a 1 dollar coin group.
This comment is not my own but I love it. Never try to be the best that there is, but try to be the best that you can. “How true”.
I have been shooting for 69 years and in that time I have learned quite a lot about shooting targets and so I am going to impart some of that experience over the next few weeks, so here goes, and use it if you want. What I have found out. The rifle (Comb ) cheek piece. Good target rifles have an adjustable comb and a lot of sporter type target air rifles do not. A proper height comb does 2 things it steadies the head and helps shooters centre the eye behind the scope which helps reduce parallax error. To much pressure pushes the cheek up and affects the eye focus and too little pressure and there is head movement. Personal preference on the shape is optional. It can be flat, right angled ,scalloped or rounded and the other advantage of a good Comb it helps with rifle hold. Next week's subject will be breathing so do plenty of that before Saturday as we want to see you at the range.
Be careful about Omicron AND PLEASE WEAR THOSE MASKS when you are out and about. Frank
