Steve Smith Memorial

Air Guns different formats 25 and 12.5 yards

The senior members remembered  and passed on memories of Steve, his airgun skills and role in the club.

Rules were reviewed, safety briefing completed then 3 pistol shooters were set to task, getting a clear silhouette round with a full multiplier is never easy and the first wobbles appeared.

With the range reset,  warm up time for the rifles was declared and a great morning tea spread was uncovered including home baked scones and sausage roles so big thanks to Mrs Kay.

Shooters presented for air rifles with break barrels, CO2 and PCP shooters all wanting to do their best.

Keith impressively shot 4 rounds of 10 multipliers and Geoff had an amazing  four rounds of 10 silhouettes.

When the dust settled and scores tallied Gavin had quietly gone about the business to complete four perfect rounds with a total 1600 points.

Well done Gavin the recipient of TARC 2024 Steve Smith memorial Trophy.

It takes a bit of effort to get through each round and set up for the next shooter, Nigel implemented a third pellet catcher and silhouette set for "reset" shots keeping each round moving nicely.

Gavin had put time into repainting the silhouette sets so they they were in tip top condition for the day. All shooters chose chicken silhouettes so we pretty much destroyed Gavin's fine effort on those.

Total scores: Geoff 1520, Gavin 1600, Nigel 1368, Mark 1288, John 1448, Donna 864, Frank 1300, Brian 1336 Keith 1520.

Perfect 400 point rounds of note: Geoff 2, Gavin 4, Nigel 1, John 2, Frank 1, Brian 1, Keith 2.

Bullseye hits: Geoff 2, Gavin 4, Mark 1, John 2, Donna 3, Brian 2, Keith 4.

With warmers each shooter can use up to 56 pellets so over 500 pellets downrange over the competition, Pellets were in .177 or .22 calibre and vary from 8 - 18 grain with most using Crosman, JSB or H&N brands.

It was a great day highlighted by the crisp sound of a Weihrauch HW30 springer on the indoor range and the clear sunny day was noted and will certainly see us back outdoors on the 50 metre range in the next few weeks.
