Steve Smith Memorial Trophy
There was a good turn out of keen shooters and Steve Smith would have been proud of how it all went. Nigel Kay was the main Range Officer with help from Mark Evans. We had a break at the half way mark for a cuppa and some eats. Brian Cook kicked it off with his trusty Air Pistol at 12.5 yards scoring 1365 which was going to be hard to beat for the rifles at 25 yds. The big challenge was to get a 10 which was just a dot for the multiplier. There was only two clear rounds by both Brian Cook and Geoff Coubrough. There was doubt until the last round who would have the best score. And that was a 9/10 from Frank Eustace. New shooter John Brogden did very well. As did John Costain who received the most consistent and most improved award.
My only question would be, is this competition fair for Springer Air rifles? Against recoilless PCPS? Then there is recoiling Springer's and break barrels and prechargers. Yes it is a bit of a snake pit.
Keep those pellets flying straight Frank
Evans mailbox. Hi all , Steve Smith Memorial day was a great success with some great shooting. Practice has been evident over previous weeks and an early start was required to get through the multiple rounds. This competition is about choices. Choosing silhouettes, Choosing when to shoot multipliers. Choosing the right air gun. Choosing the right pellet. Brian Cook shot first and lead until the final round where Frank pipped him at the post. Scores were: Frank E. 1400, Brian C 1368, Geoff C. 1292, John C. 1256, Tim W. 1188, John B. 1144, Aussie John 1060, Nigel K. 904, Mark E. 632. Frank thanked Nigel for organising the event and dealing with the bulk of the scoring.
The lunch time pastries from Mrs Kay deserve special mention and the Boston Buns from the Cooks was an unexpected treat.
